You're the first to actually ask that question in that way.
[ it's said approvingly. ]
It is a secret. Where I am from, one can do much damage if they know your name. Everyone refers to me as Owner though, so I am fine with being called that.
There are demons who use human bodies for a variety of things. Food, to wear them, use them as other resources... but that is not something that I need.
Oh. I simply take care of them. Rest assured, if someone gives me their secret, it will stay with me and me alone. I do not trade them off or anything.
[ he does not mind the doubt, it's something he's used to. ]
You get many perks as my guests. My protection, for one. It is very often that people seek refuge at my inn because they need to escape something or someone.
It depends on their needs. I recently had a guest who had stayed with me for years, although he has recently checked out of the inn. However, I will extend my protection to those after they have left the premises, if I am aware that they need assistance.
[ he can't help you if you're like in fucking america, but, ]
There will always be downsides. My personality is not always agreeable to others, and because those who usually end up at my inn are already easy targets for others, I end up in a lot of difficult situations with other demons, or humans with abilities. But we manage.
Sometimes. It depends on the reason for their stay. Some run into the inn without meaning to, unaware of danger they are in. If they don't believe it's there, they are usually less grateful at the end of it.
[ sometimes... people like to argue... and it is fine. ]
One of my favorite guests is like that. He is a handful, and because of his unusual circumstances I end up seeing him a lot. He would prefer to live a normal life without any supernatural interference though, so he isn't usually happy about it, but it's impossible for him to live like that.
[ she thinks over what he says. it's such a different living situation than hers. it's interesting to hear about. ]
It sounds like your inn shows up for people who might need it whether they know it or not. I can understand him not wanting the life and circumstances he has, but why do you like him so much if he's ungrateful?

[ if owner is good at go, i'm going to assume he wins on account of being Old.
she clears a space for the go board. ]
I don't want any handicaps.

I wouldn't dream of suggesting it. We play as equals, miss...?

Is your name lost to time or kept as secret as your age?

There is safety in keeping secrets. You haven't gathered any other nicknames? What are you the owner of?

[ his call sign id thing. ]
And no. People have called me different things over the years, but Owner is what is current.

You may stay in exchange of a secret.

But secrets? I think that is worth more than any monetary value.

What do you do with all your secrets?

It sounds questionable, at best. Your establishment.

You make your inn sound almost too good to be true.

... I didn't think about how dangerous it would to hide others like that. Do your guests appreciate you enough by the end of their stay?

Because I think there are just some people who are meant to be in your life.
no subject
It would be nice if that were true.

Life is never that simple, unfortunately. So it is best to hold on while you can until you are no longer able.

That is advice best suited for others.
