[ hello? someone is nice again with the food? fresh desserts at dinner?
unfortunately, shouxue is not one to resist food that smells appetizing, especially sweets, so here she is at the mess hall, looking very much the 16 years old she is. ]
It's okay to get excited! It's really nice, isn't it?
[ She loves having basically a restaurant on-deck at all times. That's amazing! ]
I'm always traveling on a bus -- caravan if you're one of those and don't know what a bus is -- so we don't have anything like a company canteen! What about you, does being a consort get you any fancy dinners?
[ caravan is a nice frame of reference. thank you for her life, rodya. ]
Every palace is different, but every palace has a kitchen. It depends on your family backing and how many servants you have. I choose not to have very many.
A couple people already asked me that... it's kind of hard to explain. The main task we've got is retrieving stuff from all over the City, but sometimes, the stuff is in complicated places like in a Corp. So, sometimes we're on our own figuring that out, or sometimes we work with the Corp or other Associations and Syndicates that already have it to get them to hand it over to us. All exchange-like.
It's pretty broad, but I guess it boils down to the whole retrieval thing. So that makes being a courier pretty funny.
Would you prefer to be doing your usual job to this?
[ they don't have a frame of reference for this delivery job yet but they kind of just showed up here with no warning? or that's how it seems for most, if not all, of them. ]
The royal court held birds in high esteem, so the titles of all the consorts in the Inner Palace are based off birds. There is a Crane Consort, a Mandarin Duck Consort, so on and so forth.
[ SUFFERS IN WORK BUT HOLDS MY HANDS OUT FOR WEDNESDAY... ]
Alright, I get that.
[ Honestly. Some things you don't walk into, but they come to you -- and how are you supposed to explain away just how or why you got that job in a case like that? Sometimes, life is strange. ]
Hope you're at least getting something you like out of it.
[ You as me, I'm suffering like how is it already almost Friday I have been suffering this entire week.
BUT GIRL MOOD they can spend the rest of this thread comparing the taste of different nutrition cubes and also Rodya showing Shouxue some modern day snacks. ]
week 0, monday

Hey there. Having fun with the menu?
no subject
It's suitable. [ for tastes. ] It's generous. [ for people in general. ]

[ Whoaaa. She's never even seen a single one, let alone multiple. ]
And servants, wow. I don't know the first thing about consort life, but that sounds kind of neat?
no subject
[ it wouldn't be her problem if everyone super important didn't have a palace, but she can imagine the headache. ]
It depends on the person and what they're there for. If you are always traveling, where are you going?
no subject
That could be any District depending. So nowhere specific.
no subject
That doesn't sound comfortable. What is your job?
no subject
It's pretty broad, but I guess it boils down to the whole retrieval thing. So that makes being a courier pretty funny.
no subject
Are you retrieving the same items all the time, or is it different each time?
no subject
A courier makes it technically the opposite.
no subject
[ she says it that way but a lot of things are beyond her reach.
her cheeks puff for half a second. ]
The opposite but similar.

They also said we'd be doing "other tasks", whatever that means, but that was also what I did at my job too anyway.
So, same-old, same-old, just in a different environment and mostly different coworkers.

[ they don't have a frame of reference for this delivery job yet but they kind of just showed up here with no warning? or that's how it seems for most, if not all, of them. ]

But either way, I'm not leaving my old one, so I guess that technically means I'm going with that one.

It's more about what I get out of it. Long-run benefits aren't half-bad.
no subject
she doesn't know what to say, so after a moment, she manages a riveting: ]
That sounds nice.
no subject
It's got its ups and downs, but people can say that for just about anything!
What about you, what do you usually do?
no subject
I field requests that people seek me out for.
no subject
Like... ask for favours, help me shelve a book, kind of stuff?
no subject
no subject
Uhh, what do they call those. Oracles? Is that what you do?
no subject
My title is the Raven Consort.
no subject
[ Its evident that she doesn't really get it, but it do sound very cool. ]
They call you that 'cause of your hair?
no subject

[ Rodion can vibe with that though, that sounds cool. She's not cognisant of it but I, Lowe, suffered in realising she's another bird-coded person. ]
And you all, uh, handle different duties and request types?
no subject
[ help lowe you and your birds
there is a faint sense of reluctance at explaining the next part. ]
We have different duties, but mine are more different from theirs.
no subject
In... a good way? Bad way?

[ Imagine getting married and settled or involving yourself with the dead. ]
Buuut, I guess you're the... second one? If I'm keeping this story straight?
no subject
Yes, part of my duty is receiving requests to guide souls.
no subject
[ How can you tradwife your way into the monarchy if you're too busy being haunted by the dead? ]
How'd you end up doing a job like that? Doesn't sound like something you just kinda randomly fall into.
no subject
her emotions seem as if they're receding. ]
It would be better to say I was chosen for it.
no subject
Alright, I get that.
