I was thinking about going back to the strip mall later and grabbing as much as I wanted to bring home with me. Who's going to stop us at this point? [ ... ] Also this is really good.
Yeah. I...haven't exactly bought a bunch of stuff here, but at this point it can't hurt. [ they have earned it as far as he's concerned, and if he can stock up on essentials here that will make life easier.
because yeah, surprise, he is one of those people who could really use that stipend. ]
I really, really hope so. I'm not entirely counting on it because it still feels too good to be true, but if it's possible...it'd help a lot. At least until I can figure everything else out.
Yeah. I know a few people have said we're likely going to be able to, but we don't have a guarantee yet. Guess we'll see tomorrow.
[ but waiting until then is...a pain. ]
After everything we've done the last eight week I'd be surprised if they're in any sort of position to deny us anything, but it all hinges on if they're really a company or not.
Probably nothing. We know that at some point a few months ago this ship came to this planet and that's when all of this started. If anything, that creature took over everything and probably pulled the Eudora completely offline from Nut & Bolt. But they have to be somewhat reputable if all of those ships still responded to our SOS.
That's what I mean. Even if the message was totally insane, they had to have seen it was coming from the Eudora. [ finishes his bao. ] So even if it didn't make sense, reputation might've helped us. It's just a guess though.
[ that's also a good point though and he ponders this. ]
Do you think the CEM waves affected the real Nut & Bolt, too? Like making them think that the Eudora was actually fine and they didn't have to contact us. Playing both sides.
How real do you think that message from that Jeff person was? It's possible.... I don't know how far those waves could go, but if it's from a separate dimension, I don't see why not.
On a scale from one to ten? Maybe a four. I think Jeff's a real person, but I can't guarantee he's from Nut & Bolt and not just some random guy. We've never had a way to confirm it before. [ but he's nodding along... ]
That's what I'm thinking about. Its reach has been pretty wide-spread. Who knows how far it really went without us knowing? But now that it's gone everything should be freed up again and cleared. I hope.
[ a four.... damn. shouxue trusts shoma's judgment more on this since she doesn't have the experience to distinguish spam and scam e-mails yet.
the small I hope almost makes her smile. if that isn't a mood. ]
It will begin that change. That much, I do believe, but how it will change things.... [ what is being free going to mean? how will they react? ] For the better, for us. I hope.
[ it takes time, patience, and unsupervised internet access.
the echoed "i hope" isn't lost on him, and he settles for a short grin in return. he sucks at being optimistic, but he can make an attempt. ]
I think it should. Dahut and I kind of talked about this...eventually when you hit the bottom, the only way you can go is back up. So the change has to be for the better now. [ ... ] Even if it feels like it's more difficult to believe in some cases than others.
We were close to rock bottom, and we're going up right now.
[ but because she also sucks at being optimism, she's thinking they can only go up for some time. she doesn't want to put a damper on things when their victory is very fresh, but her character development is accepting how much she cares for people, not becoming optimistic. ]
I'll save my legitimate worrying for when we'll finally stop.
[ listen he would still be happy for her and that development because caring for people is such a nightmare sometimes. so...there's a short nod. ]
Okay. So we'll try not to really worry for at least...twelve hours? That sounds about right. [ overnight. ] That gives us twelve whole hours to do something else and try to make it something good.

[ bao...tasty. ]

You're right. No one will stop us. You can take your time figuring things out at home, if you don't have to worry about other things.
Do you think they'll still give us that stipend?
[ she doesn't need it, but some people do. ]

[ she wants shoma to get that money. ]
I know there are enough who will fight for it.
[ she is not the type of person who is good at those kind of negotiations. ]

[ she is also team there is no guarantee. these kids don't know how to lighten up. ]
If they're really one, how much do you think they know of—
[ she gestures to the entire ship at large. ]

[ our. completely unhinged SOS. ]

I don't know if I'd respond to a message like that, so it was surprising to see any sort of response.
[ even if the danger was imminent and large and wasn't hiding itself anymore. ]
Still, to lose track of one of their ships like that and not look harder for any survivors can also land them in trouble.

It already affected other planets, didn't it?
[ all those clones have to be for something. ]
