[runs in ara give me a memory or heartgame it however you like i'll take AnYTHING
for now i place them in a little heartgame-esque void, which takes both Eunhyuk and Shouxue to something that looks like a stage. It looks like one, but there is a broad, tranquil lake in the center, and the makeshift trees sway in the wind.
There is also a pale white swan swimming idly in the center of the lake, to the tune of faint orchestral music. Every so often it spreads its wings and does a little pirouette, as if dancing. At some point, it'll venture towards Shouxue, eyes beady and black, preening.
[ why is there a SWAN HERE when i'm not playing melt
this is a bit sudden, so she'll take a second to adjust before she watches the swim or dance(?). eunhyuk isn't lame, but shouxue will approach the swan because she's dead yet not all the way dead and doesn't fear this (yet). (also because she is very used to birds because the imperial court in her world is bird coded.)
she stares back, waiting to see what it will do next. ]
[Eunyoo keeps dancing, seemingly unaware of her audience.]
It's about a princess named Odette who's cursed by a sorcerer to turn into a swan. The curse can only be broken by someone who loves her and remains faithful to her, otherwise she'll remain a swan forever. She meets a prince and they fall in love, but he gets tricked into confessing to the wrong person.
[The music crescendos, and Eunyoo suddenly falls to the ground, clutching her ankle. Eunhyuk moves forward instinctively, as if trying to help her. And then she disappears,]
...They end up dying together in the lake, and their sacrifice breaks the curse.
[a beat, as the question distracts him, makes him turn his focus away from whatever's occurring.]
Tragic, I think.
[THEY'RE DEAD!!! THAT'S SAD!!!! and also,]
...I do. She's my only family.
[the lake is tranquil, nothing seems to be happening. he looks away from it, tension draining a little from his shoulders, looking at Shouxue instead, the one thing that's never happened in this dream.]
[ the ending of swan lake asks a very interesting question that shouxue doesn't want to think too deeply about. they are dead, but they are together. they could be alive but apart.
[this is his cue to explain to her that eunyoo is alright, in the only way she can be, but what she says next gives him pause. it makes him rearrange the thoughts in his head a little, then]
She injured her ankle. The doctor told her she should give up on her dream, or she'd hurt herself more.
[he doesn't think it's the same as Shouxue's 'shouldn't', but he offers it anyway.]
[ this is something she can't fully comprehend. she never had siblings, and these kind of familial relationships aren't something she's used to, but she can understand how much eunhyuk tried and how much he loves his sister.
even if he finally lashed out. the slap looked painful on both fronts. it's hard for her to know what to say. she thinks they're both wrong and stupid, but that doesn't make all that pent up emotion any less painful. ]
... It looks as if you both need to talk to each other.
[ she has no right to tell this to someone, but it's clear that they both haven't processed their grief. ]

It ignores Eunhyuk entirely because he's lame.]

Eunhyuk, do you know what this is?
no subject
Eunhyuk takes a moment to answer, brow furrowed.]
...I had a dream like this.
[the stage, the lake. the background props. the swan, still dancing. the image of it flickers to young woman dressed in a white tutu.]
It's a ballet called Swan Lake. My sister performed it once.

Is that your sister? What is the ballet about?
[ she is trying to take this all in, wondering if this is a dream or something that's modeled after his dream. ]

[ it's unsatisfactory to shouxue, but she isn't someone who expects happy endings in the first place.

Do you miss her?

She was hurt.
[ she won't brush that aside, eunhyuk. ]
... I shouldn't miss anyone.

Did she listen?

...She still kept practicing. I think she would have kept at it if people didn't turn into monsters.
But she said she wanted to try. So I wanted to learn how to help her.
no subject
Even at the cost of her own health and body?
no subject
But it's been a long time since I've been able to talk to her.
[and at that, a memory plays, as if summoned.]
